Anne Frank Assignment

How will conducting an extensive research project into a historical event in which an injustice was committed help me understand the need for justice in my modern world?

We are beginning a unit about Justice vs. Injustice.  Our anchor text for this unit is The Diary of Anne Frank.  In order to build background knowledge of the time period in which the events of the play took place we will be looking into Nazi Germany and their discrimination against Jewish people.  You will create a timeline listing the rights that were taken away from the Jews, how they were taken, and when.

Step One: The Research

1. You will conduct research to answer the question “What are the rights that were taken from the Jews and when were they taken away?” (Standard W 8.7)

2. You will gather relevant information from multiple sources, using search terms effectively; and paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism. You must have 5 events listed on your timeline. (Standard W 8.8)

3. You will use technology, including the internet, to produce and publish writing and present the relationships between information and ideas efficiently. (Standard W 8.6)

 

Step Two: Outline/Graphic Organizer

1. You will develop an outline/graphic organizer that will help you produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.

(Standard W 8.4)

2. With support and guidance from your peers through peer editing you will develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed. (Standard W 8.5)

3. You will use technology, including the internet to cite sources. (Standard W 8.6)

 

Step Three: The Completed Timeline

1. From the outline/graphic organizer, you will develop 5 pieces of data (3 – 5 sentences each) to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content. (Standard W 8.2)

2. The data will exhibit a command of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. (Standard L 8.1, L 8.2)

3. Each section of data should have a corresponding image.

4. The Events must be listed in sequential order

5. Works Cited Section is attached to the back of the poster.
