Thrill Rides Project

THRILL RIDES PROJECT                          Due: ______________

INTRODUCTION:  You are a member of the Thrill Riders' Club which spends each summer traveling to different amusement parks to ride the most thrilling roller coasters.  You have been given the task of finding the three most thrilling rides and justifying your claim.

TASK:  From Internet resources, you will study the roller coasters at 10 major US amusement parks.  Based on this data, you will defend your claim as to the 3 most thrilling roller coasters by making a Powerpoint, brochure, or poster as well as writing a 1 page argumentative essay.

PROCESS:

  1. You will be researching 10 roller coasters.
  2. Obtain data on each coaster, such as height, length, speed, etc.  Fill out the data table given to you.  5 coasters have been named, you must find 5 others that you feel should be included.
  3. Using your data in making your argument, select the 3 most thrilling rides.  Find pictures of these.
  4. Design a brochure, PowerPoint, or poster to share with the class for your top 3. This document should show the data for each and which you claim to be #1, #2, & #3.
  5. You are to write a 1 page argument: 1) Introduce your claim. 2) Organize data and evidence logically to support your claim. 3) Make clear relationships among claims, reason, data, and evidence.  4) Conclude with a statement that follows logically from your argument justifying why you chose these 3 rides.
